[ARCHIVED] Safety Alert: Incident on a Westlake Trail

Safety Alert

Update 11-3-18:

Keller Police have shared a brief update this morning with Town staff as they continue to investigate the Solana Boulevard trail incident that occurred on October 23rd in Westlake. At this time, no other information is being released as they feel it could hinder the integrity of the investigation. They are currently working several leads and also working with other area police departments to determine if there is any connection between the Westlake case and other similar attacks across the Metroplex.

Most recently, Fort Worth police are investigating the case of another female jogger who was attacked earlier this week in the Chadwick Farms area. Again, it is unclear if these two incidents are related. You can watch that story here.

Police Chief Mike Wilson stressed the importance of our citizens to remain aware of their surroundings. While out using our Westlake trails or any surrounding parks and trails, residents should eliminate as many distractions as possible such as using only one earbud and restricting usage of your cell phone. Additionally, don't forget to download the SirenGPS app.

In the meantime, if you missed our emailed Safety Alert last week, please see the notice below with Keller PD's statement about the Oct. 23 incident in Westlake as well as more from our original story. We will continue to keep you updated with any further news regarding this incident as received from Keller PD.

Original Post 10-26-18:

Today, The Town of Westlake was made aware of an incident along one of our trails earlier this week. Please see the Keller Police Department’s statement below, released within the hour, containing the details on the incident.

"Keller police are asking area residents to stay alert after a woman running along one of Westlake’s trails was briefly grabbed from behind on Tuesday night. The contact was made around 6:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of Solana Blvd. along the trail that parallels the road. While the suspect immediately fled the scene, leaving the victim uninjured, we want the community to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity along the region’s trail system and be sure to report any similar encounters to the appropriate police department.

The suspect, in this case, was described as a black man approximately 5’8” with a small build and very short hair (if not fully shaved) wearing a plain white T-shirt and dark grey running pants. With more residents hitting the area parks and trails during the fall, let’s make sure we’re all taking care of one another. If you see something, say something."  -Keller PD

We urge all our residents, visitors, and members of our business community to be extra careful and stay aware of your surroundings while out, especially now that it’s getting darker, earlier in the evening. If you see anything suspicious or unusual, please do not hesitate to dial 9-1-1.

Also, we want to remind you of the enhanced emergency notification program through the SirenGPS app. While not a replacement for 9-1-1, anyone in the cities of Westlake, Southlake, Keller, and Colleyville can utilize this app so that emergency responders can pinpoint your exact location within 20-feet through your cell phone. Details on SirenGPS can be found on our website.

We are very concerned about this incident and want to assure you that your safety is our top priority. We will continue to work closely with Police to keep you informed of any further updates.
