As of now, there are no anticipated changes to your trash and recycling service due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), HOWEVER, Republic Services, who Westlake contracts for waste disposal, has provided us with some information that may help reduce the chances of any future disruptions.
- All waste MUST be bagged or containerized to ensure the safety of sanitation employees.
- As you are isolating at home, the amount of debris going to the curb is increasing and increasingly delaying routes. If this continues to increase, adjustments will have to be made to what can be collected, as solid waste will be the primary concern for the health and safety of our community.
- Recycling contamination increased by 20% last week. While crews are doing everything possible to keep up, the processing costs have significantly increased due to contamination.
- And just as a reminder, we want to stress the importance of rinsing out recyclables to reduce the chance of contamination as well.
Republic Services has set up a specific webpage dedicated to the impact of COVID-19 which can be found here. In the event there are any changes to service, we will notify you as soon as possible or you can visit Republic Services’ alert page for more info.
In the meantime, if you have any questions or issues at all, please contact Troy Meyer, Westlake’s Director of Facilities and Public Works via his email or by calling 817-490-5735. Westlake’s trash and recycling page is also an excellent resource as well.
Please know that we are all in this together and do not want service limited, but these are uncharted times and we MUST keep the sanitation employees and our community safe. Thanks so much for your help!
