Applications are now open for those interested in serving on Keller Police Chief Brad Fortune’s Advisory Council.
Started in 2019 by then-Chief Michael Wilson in partnership with community Pastor Kason Branch, the eight-member body is advisory rather than adversarial in nature. It exists to advise and assist Keller PD’s Chief of Police on matters of community unity and the provision of professional police services to all who live, visit and conduct business in the City of Keller and Town of Westlake.
Advisory Council members provide the chief with perspectives outside of the policing profession to ensure decisions are as comprehensive, informed, and objective as possible. They also review various internal affairs complaints and response to resistance reports, and advise the chief on matters related to policy, training, and development, as requested.
Three spots are being filled this year, and those selected this summer will begin a two-year term on Sept. 1, 2021, with the option of having their term renewed for an additional year.
Applicants must be registered voters who live or work in the communities of Keller or Westlake and will undergo a criminal history check. Applications are due Wednesday, June 30, and selections will be finalized by July 31.
