Cooler temperatures are around the corner making it the perfect time to get in a little fall cleaning before the holidays. Safely dispose of unwanted junk that is cluttering up your home, garage, or yard on Saturday, October 7, at the annual Fall Clean-Up event for the Town of Westlake. Residents will have the chance to bring a variety of unwanted items to the Terraces parking lot at 1400 Solana Boulevard for disposal on that Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
This event offers residents a one-stop drop-off event with several stations: household hazardous waste disposal (Crud Cruiser), electronics recycling, document shredding, bulk/brush trash, and area nonprofits accepting donations.
Residents are encouraged to dispose of their hazardous waste free of charge at the event. Because household chemicals are dangerous to garbage collectors and the environment, they cannot be placed on the curb for regular trash collection. Chemical waste that is dumped illegally on vacant property or in storm drains will make its way to area creeks and lakes, polluting the water and the fish that live in the creeks and lakes.
While most items will be accepted at the event, there are items that will not be accepted during Saturday’s clean-up including construction or building debris such as plywood or treated wood items, old fences, sheds, or torn-down building materials. Ammunition, medical waste, and tires will also not be accepted during Fall Clean-Up.
