  3. Westlake Annual Decoration Day; hosted by the Westlake Historical Preservation Society

May 29, 2017, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ In case of rain or muddy conditions at the cemetery, the event will be moved to the Westlake Academy campus, in the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) at 2600 J.T. Ottinger Road - just south, up the street from the cemetery.

This annual event presented by the Westlake Historical Preservation Society is a special one for our community as we honor those men and women who have lost their lives in service to our great nation and thank their families, and all who have served - past and present. The event will include special music and program, remembering the significance of Decoration Day/Memorial Day. Attendees will be able to learn more about and participate in the tradition of the Buddy Poppy, with proceeds benefiting our local VFW chapter in Roanoke. FREE hot dogs will be served, along with dutch oven cobblers prepared by Boy Scout Troop 170! Also, bring your family’s favorite homemade ice-cream to share and enter it in our homemade ice-cream contest. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets, camera, and mosquito repellent! Sorry, no pets please.
