Meet and Greet our Troops

The Rest & Recuperation Program started to meet and greet the troops to encourage and support our deployed military.

Anywhere from 200 to 240 troops come through DFW airport each day on their way home for a two-week R&R (Rest and Recuperation). One flight arrives daily at DFW and one departs each day. A small portion meets their families here, but the majority will catch connecting flights home. Volunteers gather each day to welcome these troops off their flight, thanking and encouraging them for their service to our great nation.

The Rest & Recuperation Program continues to be a significant and rewarding program in the DFW Metroplex. If you have had an opportunity to participate in this program, you know just how moving this experience is day after day as troops from Iraq are welcomed home by groups of volunteers from the Metroplex. This program was recognized by the Freedoms Foundation and awarded the George Washington Honor Medal. Volunteers like you are needed to extend warm hospitality to the men and women serving our country as they pass through the gates of DFW International Airport on their way home.

Without caring volunteers, this program would not be possible.  The North Texas Commission is in the process of recruiting volunteers for the remainder of year. Groups are encouraged to commit to a week to ensure that that our U.S. Troops are welcomed and greeted daily. NTC is very excited about continuing this program, and now is your opportunity to participate in an unforgettable experience.

If you are interested in greeting the U.S. troops, please contact Christen Wheeler at 972.621.0400 or e-mail heroes@dfwairport.com.
