Veterans Day isn’t until November but paying tribute to our military veterans doesn’t have to start or end there. Honoring Our Wounded Military is hosting its 12th Annual Military Heroes Run in Westlake on Saturday, August 19. This nonprofit group raises much-needed funds to support America's fighting service veterans who have suffered injuries while serving.
Anyone can register to run or walk in the August 19 event. Registration fees are $35 for the 5k and $45 for the 10k race. All 5k and 10k participants will receive an event t-shirt, medal, and race bib. The run offers people the chance to get active for a good cause — raising funds for injured military.
The Military Heroes Run is organized by a local 501(c)3 all-volunteer nonprofit called Honoring Our Wounded Military (HOWN). This group has raised and donated over $2 million in their eleven years of hosting special fundraising events like this run. HOWM supports charities such as Semper Fi & America’s Fund which provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to critically wounded, ill, and injured service members; One Tribe Foundation which raises awareness and combats suicide for veterans and first responders; and Home for Our Troops that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for injured post 9/11 veterans.
“The goal is to give back to those who have given so much,” explained race director Carley Paulsen, “all funds raised stay in North Texas. All funds raised through Honoring Our Wounded Military and the Military Heroes Run are given to organizations that directly support wounded military veterans.”
The race starts at 7 a.m. at Solana Plaza, 1301 Solana Boulevard. There is plenty of nearby parking in the parking garages located at 1400 Solana Boulevard. Grab the family, some friends, or some coworkers and join us on August 19.
