The General Municipal Election is conducted each year on the first Saturday in May, as authorized by state law. The Town Secretary serves as the Chief Election Official for the Town of Westlake and is responsible for conducting all Town elections as prescribed by the Texas Election Code. The Town Secretary contracts with Tarrant and Denton County Elections Administration to conduct all local, state and federal elections.
The Westlake Town Council is composed of a mayor and five council members. While there are five council places, they are not divided into geographic districts. Each council member is elected at large and represents the entire community. Terms are for two years. The Mayor and Council Members Places 2 and 4 are elected in even-numbered years. Council Members Places 1, 3 and 5 are elected in odd-numbered years.

Town of Westlake Town Council/Board of Trustees Meetings are typically held the third Tuesday of each Month. Town Council meetings begin at 4 p.m. Board of Trustees meetings begin at 5 pm or later depending on the progression of the posted Town Council agenda items.
