It was an eventful Town Council meeting Monday evening. Several important issues were discussed and voted upon concerning both the Town and Westlake Academy. Here’s a recap of what happened.
*Council held a public hearing and approved the 2023-2024 fiscal year Town budget
*Council held a public hearing and approved the ad valorem tax rate of $0.167880 per $100 of value (No change from prior year)
*Approved a resolution ratifying the property tax increase as reflected in the fiscal year 2024 annual operating and capital budget
*Heard discussion regarding Town financial policies
*Council received a quarterly financial report
*John Ard was sworn in as the new Westlake Fire Chief*Council heard a presentation of state assessment results from Westlake Academy
*Proclamation recognizing October 5th as World Teachers’ Day in the Town of Westlake
*The WA 2023 AP Scholars, recipients of the College Board National Recognition Program, and the National Merit Semi-Finalists were honored
*Discussion regarding international trips for WA high school students
*Approved TTESS appraisal handbook for Westlake Academy
*Approved resolution for economic and development agreement for the Villaggio residential development
*Discussion regarding cell tower coverage
*Approved repairs to Westlake backflow preventer devices
*Tabeled the vote for the purchase of network security equipment until the October 9th meeting
