Town Council Recap (8-5-2024)

If you missed the Town Council/Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, August 5, here is everything you need to know:

  • Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Clements took part in a badge-pinning ceremony as a welcome to the Westlake Fire-EMS team
  • Westlake Public Works staff members Kyle Flanagan and Tim Hackrott were honored for their role in saving the life of a driver who was experiencing a medical emergency.
  • The Town's Director of Finance gave an update on the 2024-2025 budget
  • Council heard an update from the Tarrant Appraisal District Chief Appraiser
  • Council approved a resolution accepting the Westlake Academy Fiscal Year 2022-2023 annual audit report
  • Council accepted the resignation of Council member David Quint. Council has 30 days to fill the position
  • Council approved a maximum tax rate, which is the current rate to consider and advertise.
  • Council approved the expenditure and awarded a contract to Geo Surfaces for the WA field renovations project that includes new lights, field surfaces, and drainage improvements.
  • Council approved the commissioning of improvements to the WA playgrounds that include shade structures and resurfacing, installing a new turf.
  • Council approved purchasing and installing of a new 84-camera system and access controls for WA to make the campus safer.  The majority of the costs associated with the purchase will come from grants.
  • Council approved the second amended and restated bylaws of the Westlake Academy Foundation allowing the WAF to appoint their own Board members/Directors as opposed to getting final approval from the Council.
  • Council approved designating Town Council Places as place numbers from 1-5, requiring each Town Council candidate to designate place numbers at time of ballot application, providing no person shall be a candidate for more than one place, providing procedures to fill Town Council vacancies for unexpired terms 
  • Council approved a resolution for the addition of "Section V, violations of this policy" to the Town of Westlake Town Council member governance and ethics policy.
