North Texas fire departments are coming together to spearhead a disaster relief initiative in response to the devastating flooding crisis that has significantly impacted western North Carolina. Following the unprecedented rainfall brought by Hurricane Helene, the region has experienced more than 30 inches of rain in just 24 hours, resulting in extensive damage to more than 1,000 structures, leaving many residents without power, heat, or access to basic necessities.
Fire
departments across North Texas, including our own
Westlake Fire-EMS Department, are organizing efforts to collect and distribute critical supplies to those most in need. Several local fire stations have been designated as collection points for donations, which will be rapidly transported to the affected areas. Supplies such as new or gently used cold-weather gear, indoor heaters, and camping gear are urgently needed, as temperatures have dropped to the low 30s at night, with snow already reported in higher elevations.
The relief efforts will focus on getting cold-weather supplies to residents, restoring access to isolated areas, and supporting the long-term recovery efforts by addressing the immediate need for road repairs and power restoration.
You have until October 26th to drop off your donations. The Westlake Fire-EMS Station is located at 2000 Dove Road. Thanks so much for your support!
