A story we know all too well. To us, Westlake is the place we’ve called home. A place where our pastures are green, cows are plenty, and it boasts a peaceful landscape nestled within a busy metroplex. To you, this may be the only Westlake you’ve ever known. The one where you chose to raise your family and one day welcome your grandchildren to visit. But across the country, many others claim the name. In fact, there are a total of 10 Westlakes across the country. We get calls saying, “Do I need a permit to fish?”, “My trash bin floated away in the hurricane”, or “There’s a coyote in my backyard!” The only problem? They’re all talking about the wrong Westlake. You see, we are THE Westlake.
Initially, this article was to commemorate the 100th birthday of a Westlake resident. When a family friend reached out to share their story, we were more than happy to plan a surprise proclamation at our council meeting to celebrate. We scheduled a phone interview to learn more about the resident’s involvement in Town and what Westlake was like 40 years ago. “We love the Austin area! We both are UT grads,” they said. That’s when we knew they meant to call West Lake Hills, Austin. Had we not known, they would have shown up with balloons and cake in a city more than 200 miles away. We couldn’t let another mix-up like that happen, so let’s set the record straight.
The Town of Westlake holds 7 square miles filled with scenic trails and a vibrant, close-knit community. Here, you get the best of both worlds: top-tier services and education alongside big-city amenities, all while enjoying the hometown pride that comes from meeting face-to-face with your local leaders and seeing familiar faces enjoying live music at the Town Hall, making memories at our community events. Established almost 70 years ago in 1956, our Town has made it a long way from its first council meeting at Circle T Ranch. State-of-the-art corporate campuses proudly surround our Town, encouraging opportunities for businesses to continue coming in. Just east of the Ranch and its beloved longhorns lies Entrada, a blend of charming architecture with a modern vision that shapes the beautiful skyline that so many associate with Westlake.
Of course, being THE Westlake has its perks. We get to speak with people from across the country whom we wouldn’t have been able to if it weren’t for the shared name. Just ask our Utility Billing Coordinator what they say about Westlake, Florida. “Every single person there has a New Jersey accent. When I say, ‘This is Westlake, Texas, just north of Fort Worth,’ they come back with, ‘Well, I’m in Florida!’ in that Jersey accent. It’s beautiful,” Dianna Orender said. She hasn’t received any calls from Idaho, Georgia, Maryland, and Montana, yet. Maybe we should all have tea one day.
So, whether you’ve lived here for years or just moved in, we’re glad you chose us, THE Town of Westlake.
